What are Recruitment Campaign Trackers?
Recruitment Campaign Trackers (RCT) are a variety of IDs that can be appended to the end of activity URLs that allow you to report on and identify participation records associated with different activity entry points.
How do they work?
Each RCT ID is associated with a specific entry point and is attached to the learner's participation record. Rievent provides a standard report and also includes the name of the entry point and the ID in the complete program results export file.
The RCT ID will become bound to the learner's session and assigned to the learner participation record after it is created, or to an existing participation record if no recruitment tracker is already assigned to the participation record. This works whether the user is signed-in or not signed-in to the site at the time the activity start URL with the recruitment tracker is followed, as the tracker isn't actually applied to the reservation record until after the learner progresses past the authentication component in the workflow. After the recruitment tracker is applied to the participation record, it will not be replaced by a subsequent attempt to start the activity with a different recruitment tracker.
If a learner follows an activity start link with a recruitment ID, but fails to progress past the authentication component and create/associate a participation record, and then navigates to another activity and progresses to create/associate a participation record for that activity, the recruitment tracker will be assigned to that activity. Returning to participate in the original activity will not result in the recruitment tracker being assigned. It's cleared from the user session as soon as it's assigned to the first participation record.
How are the RCT IDs Configured?
The IDs are configured by the Rievent team, based on the list of entry points a customer provides. The IDs are intended to be a somewhat finite list, reasonably less than a dozen or so representing individual source classifications rather than one-off marketing efforts.
If a recruitment tracker is applied to a generic site landing page like the course catalog (https://platform.rievent.com/s/catalog?mct=1), when a learner goes on to participate in an activity, the recruitment tracker will be assigned to that activity. Again, only first activity participation. Subsequent activity starts from the course catalog will not apply the recruitment tracker.
How do I use the IDs?
Append mct=<tracker-id> to the end of a Rievent activity URL ( i.e. https://platform.rievent.com/a/DFNBZP?mct=1) in order for the platform to track the entry point. The ID's are not "sticky" which means they would not work as intended if attached to the end of a generic URL, such as the Course Catalog.
What types of Reports are included?
Each activity provides a standard report that breaks down the counts and percentages of how learners entered the activity. To access the report, go to the Reports tab, click Participation Metrics, then select Program Recruitment Campaign Summary.
